In this undergraduate text, which could also serve as a reference, the authors address both the fundamentals behind constructing and maintaining as database as well as describing the most common commercial software available. Topics about relational databases include the relational model, SQL, and other relational languages, those on database design include the E-R model and application design and development, and those on object-based databases include XML. General topics also include data storage and querying, transaction management, data mining and information retrieval, system architecture, advanced topics and case studies. Appendices include information on the network model, hierarchical model, and advanced relational database design contents. A companion web site is now included, and the text has been updated to include new versions and applications of XML and SQL. Annotation ©2005 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
