Practical Handbook of Pediatric Diagnostic Imaging: Imaging Modalities, Normal Anatomy, Common Findi

Pediatric diagnostic imaging requires more than simply applying adult imaging principles to smaller patients. Children have developing anatomy, age-specific disease patterns, different cooperation needs, and unique safety considerations that make imaging selection and interpretation especially important.

This handbook has been created for readers who want a clear, practical, and clinically organised introduction to diagnostic imaging in children and adolescents.

Written in an accessible professional style, it explains the major imaging modalities used in pediatric care, including radiography, ultrasound, CT, MRI, fluoroscopy, and selected nuclear medicine applications. The focus is on helping readers understand when different imaging methods are used, what normal pediatric anatomy may look like, and how common findings are approached in everyday clinical practice.

Readers will explore imaging of the chest, abdomen, brain, spine, musculoskeletal system, urinary tract, gastrointestinal tract, trauma presentations, infection, congenital conditions, and selected emergency scenarios. The book also introduces key principles of radiation safety, image quality, age-appropriate protocols, communication with children and families, and the importance of correlating imaging findings with clinical information.

With its practical structure and case-oriented approach, this handbook is suitable for medical students, radiography students, pediatric trainees, residents, sonographers, radiographers, physician associates, nurse practitioners, and healthcare professionals seeking a stronger foundation in pediatric diagnostic imaging.

This book is intended for educational use only and does not replace specialist radiology reporting, institutional imaging protocols, supervised clinical training, current guidelines, or professional medical judgement.

Exstrophy--Epispadias Complex: Research Concepts and Clinical Applications (1999)
The undertaking of the treatment of an infant born with bladder exstrophy is one of the most weighty responsibilities that can fall upon the shoulders of the reconstructive sur- geon. The modern treatment of a child born with bladder exstrophy began in the mid- 1970's with the widespread application of staged reconstruction. This approach has consistently yielded very good results in several series. However, as in all serious congeni- tal birth defects, there is certainly room for advancement. Issues such as the routine use of osteotomy, timing and type of epispadias repair, combining bladder closure with epispadias repair, the approach to the small bladder, and the management of a failed exstrophy still remain. This National Institute of Health/Na- tional Kidney Foundation/Johns Hopkins-sponsored seminar was an attempt to bring ex- perts in the field of pediatric orthopedic surgery, pediatric urology, pediatric surgery, adult urology, and basic science together to share their experiences in an attempt to foster new clinical and basic science research communications between the participants. If these col- laborations result, then this first international meeting will have been successful. The editors would like to thank all of the contributors for their timely and complete submissions.
