And so she did, becoming one of the pioneers of aviation. Not only was Amelia Earhart the first woman in the world to fly across the Atlantic Ocean, she was the first person to cross it twice. Her life became a great adventure story--and a great mystery, too. In 1937, on an around-the-world flight, Amelia disappeared.
