Sufficient Defence?: The Post-Soviet States and Security

This research report describes developments in the fifteen former Soviet republics during 1992, their first year of existence, in relation to international and national security matters. It focuses on how these new states have coped with the superpower legacy of nuclear arms and armed forces and with unsolved conflicts now exploding after seventy years of artificial pacification. It also examines how and whether these states adhere to the concept of "reasonable and sufficient defense" inherited from the Gorbachev era.
