Kisi plays her part as a gatherer in the desert. There, in the endless expanse on the back of her ruby lizard, she feels free. When she saves the life of a young Keeper, Kisi has no idea what events she is setting in motion. The power structure of the bay is crumbling, threatening not only Kisi's simple life, but all of humanity. Kisi and her friends are drawn into the fight for supremacy - whether they like it or not. They resolutely resist the disintegration of everything they know, only to realise that the spark of turmoil has an unexpected origin.
