Foreign Voices, Native Tongues is a book about our lives in this world where sex, death, race, ability, class, love, age, anger, and nature appear in messy and surprising ways. The speakers in these poems give voice to experiences of the body and the body politic, the voices of people real and imagined, of things animate and inanimate. The speakers here speak for, from, and about the natural world in tongues that are native, learned, and imagined. It is a collection that can be read sequentially or randomly. The subjects and language of the poems invite readers to consider this world and write poems of their own, in their own indelible voices.
