Bombproof: A True Story of Second Chances

Her life was a walk on the razor's edge.
Ravaged by a devastating combination of flashbacks and seizures, Leana Beasley had all but lost hope.

Then came Bronson. The dog, once a stray, was a Rottweiler mixed-breed. Named after tough-guy actor Charles Bronson and trained in a women's prison to help people with disabilities, he immediately won Leana's heart. With an uncanny ability to forewarn of seizures and a loving, unflappable personality, the animal changed-indeed, saved-Leana's life, and that of her family.

Bombproof takes readers into some of society's most desperate places-psychiatric wards, emergency rooms, and prisons-as it tracks Leana and Bronson's journey of renewal and redemption.

Cheers for Leana Beasley and Bronson

Praise for Stephen Sawicki's
Animal Hospital

"There are echoes of Tracy Kidder in Sawicki's approach, of the late James Herriot in his interest in human behavior as well as animal ailments, and for serious animal lovers, something of the sense of urgency of TV's ER in the health crises he re-creates."
Booklist

"From the homeless to the affluent, Angell's veterinarians see everyone. And you'll meet many of these characters-practitioners and clients alike-in Stephen Sawicki's compelling Animal Hospital...If you're a fan of NBC's popular ER, this furry version will capture you, too."
Seattle Times

"An astute and compassionate observer, Sawicki has written one of the best animal books to come along in years."
