Law, Religion and Work in Africa

The history, nature, and conditions of work in contemporary Africa have been shaped by religious and legal regimes. Chapters in this volume focus on the multiple ways in which law and religion mutually shape our understandings of the value and contexts of work, and the institutional, cultural and other protections that workers need to ensure labour conditions that are productive, human and respect fundamental human rights. Various sections of the book examine general themes to do with religious freedom in the workplace, religious employers, the informal economy, child labour, conscience rights, traditional religion and women at work for a full picture of law, religion and work in Africa.
