Rome

While it may not have had the same historical impact as its Italian predecessor, the history of Rome, New York, is not to be sniffed at.

This central New York crossroads witnessed the siege of Fort Stanwix during the Revolutionary War, the digging of the Erie Canal, and the development of industry that followed. At one time, Rome boasted one-tenth of all copper produced in the country, earning the nickname "the Copper City."
