After their parents die, Leslie Mackenzie and her two siblings are taken in by their Auntie Peg. Leslie knows that given the poverty and unemployment in and around Leith, she is lucky to have a roof over her headalbeit her aunt's tenementand a job to go to. But while Leslie enjoys working as a waitress, she dreams of escaping Leith for newer pastures. When Aunt Peg announces her intention of marrying her widower boss, Leslie realizes that since their lives are destined to change, she may as well seize the opportunity and look elsewhere for a position. The Hotel Grand Forest couldn't be more different from the Edinburgh hotel Leslie is used to working in. The luxury spa hotel is in the highlands of Scotland, in the small village of Glenmar, and caters to the whims of its rich, high society guests. Leslie accepts a position at the Grand Forest, little dreaming what fate has in store for her there. For while in many ways it is her dream job, strict rules govern the behavior of all Grand Forest's employees and staff are forbidden from mixing with guests. But then Leslie meets Christopher Meredith and falls in love."
