Dr. Stuart Fischer has been practicing orthopaedic surgery and doing hip replacements in Summit, New Jersey for thirty years. He received his B.A. from the University of Virginia in 1971 and his M.D. from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1975. He completed his orthopaedic residency training at New York Orthopaedic Hospital, Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York. Dr. Fischer is President of the New Jersey Orthopaedic Society, Orthopaedic Surgeons of New Jersey and the OSNJ Medical Liability Purchasing Alliance. He is a former chief of orthopaedic surgery at Overlook Hospital in Summit, New Jersey. Dr. Fischer has had a long interest in writing and patient education. He currently serves as a member of the Council on Education and the Communications Cabinet of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He has also been a member of the Patient Education Committee. He is the Joint Replacement Editor for the Academy patient information website Your Orthopaedic Connection and a member of the editorial board of the monthly newspaper AAOS Now. Dr. Fischer has written patient information articles on a wide range of orthopaedic topics including hip replacement, rotator cuff surgery, articular cartilage restoration and stem cells in orthopaedics. In addition, he has developed and written the computer based Informed Patient Tutorial program for YOC. When he is not writing and practicing orthopaedic surgery, Dr. Fischer can be found climbing and skiing the backcountry in Idaho and Wyoming looking for the lightest and deepest untracked powder the mountains have to offer.
