Mary as You've Never Seen Her Before: A Woman from Scripture

Through a process of careful deconstruction and reconstruction, this book takes a critical, biblical, and feminist look at Mary and finds an image of Mary not previously seen. The authors examine Marian piety and teachings, questioning all presuppositions and, with the help of recent exegetical studies, rejecting those characteristics that contradict the Scriptures. Little by little, from beneath the clerical rewritings and the devotional dressings, another Mary emerges. She is a powerful, rich, and complex figure with prophetic strength who responds to contemporary expectations and nourishes our faith.

Anne Soupa is a biblical scholar and author of numerous books, including Douze femmes dans la vie de Jésus (Salvator, 2025) and Esperez!: Manifeste pour la renaissance du christianisme, with Christine Pedotti (Albin Michel, 2022).

Sylvaine Landrivon, a doctor of theology, taught at the Catholic University of Lyon (UCLy) and has published several works, including La Part des femmes: Relire la Bible pour repenser I'Eglise (L'Atelier, 2024) and Les Leçons de Béthanie: De la théorie à la pratique (Cerf, 2022)
