Existing as a unified country since 1990, the Republic of Yemen has an impressive history at the crossroads of an ancient trade route. With Yemen's strategic position at the southern end of the Red Sea, its geography is key to its prosperity. The discovery of oil in Yemen during the 1980s offered it enormous economic gains, yet it still suffers from poverty.
