Aspiring actor, 10-year-old Adrian, travels by ship across the Atlantic Ocean from England to Canada. Unbeknownst to him hiding in his luggage is a mouse he named Tiddlywinks who also wants to act.( Without food, attacked by dangerous rats, Tiddlywinks barely survives the trip.)

Against his father's wishes Adrian secretly auditions for a part in Richard III at the Stratford Shakespearean Festival Theatre. Poor Tiddlywinks becomes trapped in a shoebox, then lost backstage he encounters a troupe of mice producing Shakespeare's play The Tempest.
