For years, librarian and church volunteer extraordinaire Rachel Gregory prayed that Peter, her philandering husband of twenty-five years, would find Jesus. And now that he has, Rachel doesn't know what to think or whether she can trust him and God..

An unexpected pregnancy resulted in the Gregorys marrying in their teens. For several years, they didn't have much except each other, their daughter, and hikes in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley. Cancer, miscarriages, and other problems sent them into the Land of Settling, where they've stayed because things have been predictable and easier than divorcing. But now, Peter's pledged to be faithful and has returned to Church of the Redeemer-where everyone but Rachel welcomes him with open arms. She's skeptical of his conversion, and to be honest, a little scared of the partnership that returning to a true marriage would mean.

Rachel's world is rocked further a few months later when she loses her job due to budget cuts, and Peter arranges for her to get a part-time volunteer version of her high school dream of working at the Library of Congress 70 miles away in Washington, DC. Peter believes there is something to be saved in their marriage. Rachel wonders if she can trust him-and God. It's an opportunity for Rachel to experience a spiritual conversion of her own, to believe in a merciful Almighty rather than the one she learned about from her judgmental, rigid mother and father.
