As money runs low and plans fall apart, they camp, housesit, and work odd jobs, constantly reinventing themselves and letting go of the expectations they carried into the journey. Along the way, the narrator reflects on earlier solo travels that prepared him for this moment, drawing quiet connections between youthful waywardness and the hard choices of parenting on the road.
