Description

The author now presents the most complete, documented and factual account of the Abney Family from its noble roots in 11th century Bretagne, France; to William the Conqueror's England; through Lincolnshire, Derbyshire, and Leicestershire; to the British Colony of Virginia; through South Carolina and points west and north with over 200 photographs, documents and illustrations! Through a series of unfortunate events, publication of this book was delayed for many years, but is the better for it. This book corrects myriad errors published and believed by previous and current researchers and authors. It is Mr. Abney's desire that this book (Vol. I of the Abney Family History Series) will begin a series of books correctly documenting the Noble Abney Family in many volumes. Ancestry of the American Abney family from the 10th century to the present, including dozens of related families. Also included are British History, American History, Southern History and information on Hurricanes Katrina and Betsy with hundreds of photographs and pedigrees.
The author, Raymond Robert Abney Jr., also known as Robert, Bobby, and RR, has been researching the Abney family since the 1980's. He is well-known in genealogical circles as the Authority on the Abney Family, even being called an Abney Guru. Mr. Abney (student of nine languages) uses every tool at his disposal: documentation (often translating documents and inscriptions from their original language), nomenclature, prosopography, mathematics and critical thinking to produce an accurate account of the Abney family. He has always been willing to freely share his work, discoveries and conclusions, as many of you already know. Mr. Abney has worked with hundreds of genealogists and historians, connecting their branch to the Abney Tree, correcting their information, and adding to his own. His innovations have greatly increased interest and corrections in family history. Mr. Abney founded the Society of United Genealogists, International and published the Historian newsletter and created a Bulletin Board System (SUG) before the popularity of the Internet. He has previously published and sold two genealogy-related books, to wit: History of the Noble de Saint-Germain Family and the Art of Ancestral Chart Drawing (the Abney Method). As for his work on the Abney Family, Mr. Abney was the founder of the Centralized Abney Archives, and the Abney Family Researcher newsletter. Now, for the first time, he is able to assemble much of his work in his latest book: Abney, subtitled: Ancestry and Genealogy of Dr. Abraham Abney of Virginia.
  • R. R., you have written a phenomenal book! I have completely enjoyed reading it. There are dozens of post it notes where I want to return and read again. I send you my heart-felt sympathy of what you lost during Katrina, such a tragedy, but I admire you tremendously for how you express your coping with such reality, like Job? And I want to thank you very very much for teaching me a new word! Prosopography....in my 40 years of doing genealogy and over 60 years of being a constant reader, I never came across that word. And now I have used it recently in an article I submitted for my historical society's newsletter. I have request the society buy your book for the county collection and I'm sure they will as there must not be anything like it available. I was most intrigued by what you presented on the very earliest Aubigne, more in one reference than I've collected over time. Your book is in a word "definitive..".T.A.A., Santa Clara, CA
