TIBA is a brand-new art form using an art medium never used before to create art. It is a medium that has only become available during the past few decades, before which it never existed. Even with its use in the present these items are now antiquated and no longer produced. This medium consists of small metal pieces of spinal surgical instrumentation, or implants as they are referred to, that have spent time in human bodies performing the function of stabilization in order to allow for better functioning and less pain in those individuals. These implants, after surgical removal for medically approved reasons, were then washed and gas sterilized according to OSHA hospital guidelines. Since it is not ethically acceptable to reuse these implants, they are being used to create pieces of art instead. Being made from the finest metals by using industry's latest techniques, they could last for many centuries without significant change.
This book describes the uses of these implants during their "in body" state and follows their journey from the surgical suite to a decade of storage, and finally onto sheets of aluminum as images of art.
Being a new art form, it remains unclassified. Does it fall within the domain of DADA art from the early twentieth century. This book will make the argument that there exists significant support for this association.
There are two types of art being created with this medium that consist of "permanent pieces", which are in honor of our Paleolithic cave artist ancestors, and a second type exemplified by creating temporary pieces of various themes using the implants and then photographing them. All of the images created using this medium can be photographed, as represented by their images in this book, and they can be reproduced on various backings such as metal or various types of fine art paper. Framing each piece will then add the finishing touches for an artistic fine art display for those who wish to indulge.
