Avalia has been made The Heir to The Realm of the Unusual and one of the most powerful people in the world. While struggling to find her footing in a job she never even dreamed of, she discovers that she must face a daunting competition in which all ten of the other elemental regencies get to put forth two contestants for her consideration and the winner receives her hand in marriage and the title of Heir Consort. As if that wasn't enough, someone appears to really want Avalia dead and is willing to go to any lengths to make it happen. Which one of the lacklustre contestants will win her hand, who is behind the plot to assassinate the world's most lethal blade, and can they be stopped in time?
