Annie Mae Jenkins is a 16-year-old high school dropout living in a housing project with her mother and four brothers. They live outside of Wison North Carolina in a small town called Goldsboro North Carolina. Her brothers are 18-year-old Eddie Bee, 12-year-old Danny, 8-year-old Tobey, and 7-year-old Lamont. Annie Mae is the third in a series of novels by Wynetta Gillespie. The backdrop of this novel like the others is centered on a fragile family structure with all of the trappings of a public housing project.
