Mirror in the Clouds

Growing up can be hard. Kids sometimes deal with internal struggles that many adults aren't aware of. Sometimes, all it takes is the right person to come along and show us ourselves through the eyes of GOD. This book is about a young girl transitioning to the 5th grade. She wakes up on her first day of school dreading the idea of going. She desires making friends and being accepted for her dark skin and unique hair. With every sentence rhyming with the next, this book poetically captivates the reader by its unique word play and the tear-jerking story that unfolds through each colorful and uniquely illustrated page. As she recaps over her previous experiences, she dives into old feelings of self hatred. She realizes that she doesn't love herself unless she's at home looking in her own mirror. She recalls a conversation with a former teacher that she admired. The line goes "One day I decided to ask her, when she was all alone. Do you ever feel pretty? Or is it just at home?" Her teacher gives her this divine and heart stirring speech that uplifts every ounce of confidence in her spirit. She walks away feeling beautiful, empowered and ready to take on the next school year. You and your child will love reading this book over and over again. It's just one of those kind of books. Enjoy!
