Return To Protection: Being A Restatement Of The Case For Free Trade (1906)

The Return To Protection: Being A Restatement Of The Case For Free Trade is a book written by William Smart and originally published in 1906. The book presents a comprehensive argument for free trade, challenging the then-popular belief in protectionism. Smart argues that free trade is not only beneficial for the economy but also for society as a whole. The book is divided into four parts, each exploring a different aspect of free trade. Part one provides an overview of the history of free trade and protectionism, while part two examines the economic benefits of free trade. Part three looks at the social and political effects of free trade, and part four offers a critique of protectionism. Throughout the book, Smart draws on historical examples and empirical evidence to support his arguments. He also addresses common misconceptions about free trade and provides counterarguments to protectionist claims. The Return To Protection: Being A Restatement Of The Case For Free Trade is an important work in the history of economic thought and remains relevant today as debates about free trade and protectionism continue. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
