Apologetic Of Modern Missions: Eight Outline Studies (1909)

The Apologetic of Modern Missions: Eight Outline Studies is a book written by John Lovell Murray and published in 1909. The book is a collection of eight studies that aim to provide an apologetic, or defense, of modern Christian missions. The author begins by examining the historical context of Christian missions, tracing their origins back to the early church and exploring how they have evolved over time. He then looks at the theological basis for missions, arguing that the Great Commission given by Jesus to his disciples is still relevant today.Murray also addresses common objections to Christian missions, such as accusations of cultural imperialism and religious intolerance. He argues that these criticisms are often based on misunderstandings of the true nature and purpose of missions.Throughout the book, Murray emphasizes the importance of contextualization in missions, or the need to adapt to local cultures and customs in order to effectively share the gospel. He also provides practical advice for missionaries, such as the importance of language learning and building relationships with local communities.Overall, The Apologetic of Modern Missions is a thoughtful and well-reasoned defense of Christian missions, written from the perspective of a seasoned missionary and scholar. It offers valuable insights for anyone interested in the history, theology, and practice of modern missions. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
