Tales of Fairies and of the Ghost World: Collected From Oral Tradition in South-West Munster

Drawing from a rich trove of Celtic and Western European traditions, Tales of Fairies and of the Ghost World presents a compelling collection of lore surrounding the elusive beings known as fairies. Jeremiah Curtin explores their varied identities-as spirits, supernatural creatures, or remnants of ancient peoples-through a lens shaped by centuries of belief and oral tradition.

With meticulous attention to how these beings were perceived and feared, the book examines protections against fairy mischief, such as the use of iron or charms, and recounts chilling stories of abduction and changelings.

Positioned within the broader context of medieval romance and folklore, these accounts reveal a complex mythology that blurs the line between the natural and supernatural. Offering readers both cultural insight and narrative intrigue, this volume serves as an essential window into how communities once understood the unseen forces shaping their world.
