From slate to paper and iron ore, Britain relied on dozens of small railways to keep people and goods moving. Here, Brian and Ian Reading explore various scenes, many of which have changed beyond recognition.This photographic tour of the 1950s and 1960s includes the Ffestiniog, Talyllyn, Isle of Man, Leiston, Welsh Highland, Penryn, Dinorwic & Padarn, Welshpool & Llanfair, Vale of Rheidol, Bowaters and S&L Minerals railways. Some are seen making a transition from freight to tourism, some are being restored by dedicated volunteers, and others are hauling their last freight before sadly closing.
