Co-Education Of The Sexes (1896)

The Co-Education Of The Sexes is a book written by Mabel Hawtrey and published in 1896. The book explores the concept of co-education, which refers to the education of both male and female students in the same institution. Hawtrey argues that co-education is essential for the development of a well-rounded individual and a harmonious society. The book is divided into three parts. The first part provides a historical overview of co-education, tracing its origins to ancient Greece and Rome. The second part examines the benefits of co-education, including improved academic performance, socialization skills, and gender equality. The third part addresses the challenges and objections to co-education, such as concerns about moral and religious education, sexual harassment, and the preservation of gender roles.Hawtrey's writing is clear and persuasive, and she draws on a range of sources to support her arguments. She also includes anecdotes and personal experiences to illustrate the benefits of co-education. The book is a valuable resource for educators, policymakers, and anyone interested in the history and philosophy of education. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
