Malanga, Gerard

This prestigious text offers the most up-to-date advice on the assessment and treatment of pain. Derived from the highly acclaimed journals Best Practice & Research Clinical Rheumatology and Best Practice & Research Clinical Anaesthesiology, this fully updated volume discusses the basic principles of pain, its diagnosis, the recognition of 'red' flags indicating a greater risk of serious causes and 'yellow' flags indicating a greater risk of developing more chronic pain, and the evidence-based management of a variety of conditions. Illustrated throughout, the book draws upon the expertise of some of the World's leading experts in the field, providing a publication that gives a truly international perspective to the management of pain.

Full reference to the latest clinical research

New chapters on limb pain and Science and psychology of pain

Cochrane Reviews, when relevant

boxed and bulleted Research Agenda and Practice Points

Reference to national and international guidelines

The Handbook of Clinical Neurology Vol 101: Muscular Dystrophies discusses the pathogenesis and treatment prospects for muscular dystrophies. It summarizes the advances in molecular and cell biology, biochemistry, and other biological sciences, with an emphasis on their application to this group of muscle disorders and to their clinical implications.

Starting with an overview of muscular dystrophies, the book's 16 chapters discuss dystrophinopathies; sarcoglycanopathies; congenital muscular dystrophies; collagen VI-related myopathies; limb-girdle muscular dystrophy 2A; dysferlinopathies; limb-girdle muscular dystrophy 2H and the role of TRIM32; and caveolinopathies. The book also covers myofibrillar myopathies; Emery-Dreifuss muscular dystrophy; facioscapulohumeral dystrophy and scapuloperoneal syndromes; oculopharyngeal muscular dystrophy; myotonic dystrophy types 1 and 2; and distal muscular dystrophies.

This book is useful to basic investigators, as it offers an increased understanding of muscular dystrophies; and to clinicians, with its emphasis on issues that are relevant to the care, diagnosis, and management of patients with these disorders.

This comprehensive and definitive work succeeds and expands on the highly successful HLA and Disease published in 1994. This new edition has been updated, redesigned and reorganised into three sections making it an invaluable reference.

The introductory section summarises current knowledge on the structure, function, genetics and evolution of the HLA system. It clarifies its complex and ever changing nomenclature and discusses the mechanisms underlying disease associations with HLA alleles. The second section deals with the importance of HLA in the context of different clinical specialities. Individual chapters describe the association between HLA polymorphism and each disease. The final section features chapters on current laboratory practice in histocompatibility and tissue typing.

HLA in Health and Disease is essential reading for basic and clinical researchers working in immunology and immunogenetics, transplantation medicine and autoimmunity. It will also be of interest to anyone in the fields of rheumatology, diabetology, nephrology, allergy, dermatology, neurology, endocrinology, cancer biology, respiratory medicine, haematology, molecular biology and biochemistry.

Translational Inflammation links laboratory and clinical data within primary and secondary care to clinical research data and offers a holistic and innovative approach to chronic inflammation and ageing. Understanding the role of inflammation as a part of clinical disease states is becoming a valuable tool in both direct treatment and the development of therapeutics. Translational Inflammation, the 4th volume in the Perspectives in Translational Cell Biology series, offers content for professors, students and researchers across basic and translational biology.
