Healing Heart: A Glimpse into the First Year of a Tragic Loss

On April 7, 2008 Melissa received a life-altering phone call that forever changed her family. Her mother and father were tragically killed. The family as she knew it was essentially gone and would miss the rest of her journey and experiences on Earth. Not many can understand her deep pain and sadness, but her journal entries allow the reader to glimpse a broken heart trying to heal-to make sense of all that happened while trying to maintain a good life, honor her parents, and keep their loving spirits alive. The tragic year ended with a beautiful gift. Her first child was born. That made her think that good can come out of the unthinkable.
