These essays are grouped as clinical, sociological, and free ranging thoughts on diverse subjects. Both the 19th century Freud and his 20th century disciple confirm the wisdom of their historic predecessor: "...and the truth shall set you free". But that emancipation is not easily achieved, for adult man still wrestles with the shackles of ancient indoctrination, presented by the clerics as guidance but effecting instead his obedience. The sharing of his unique mental life with an understanding companion re-establishes that original nurturing bond with another which releases the inherent growth of the self and its own thinking, an actual, not metaphorical, re-birth. Freed thinking, free of parochialism, is exemplified by this book.
