One Drop

Zing! Zap! Plop! Gray clouds gather. One drop of water waits. Thunder rumbles. Down to the earth the drop plummets! Through crashing lightning and rumbling thunder, the reader embarks on a journey through the water cycle with a single raindrop from the sky. Told through lyrical text, this visually stunning nonfiction book traces a drop of water from cloud to aquifer, from underground stream to marsh, from lake to river, from ocean to strait, past icebergs and waterfalls and beaches, until finally back to cloud. Accompanying the story are small pieces of information that are woven into the text every few pages identifying terms and facts. At the end, a glossary of terms and accompanying illustrations provide readers with a more detailed understanding of the water cycle. The water cycle is an important topic in early understanding of science, specifically physical geography. One Drop provides the youngest of students the opportunity to grasp simple terms and facts while enjoying the journey of the main character in the story, the "One Drop".
