Golden Tale

It's a dog's life when a lovable golden retriever named Jake finds himself left by the side of the road in South Carolina, and all he can think about is finding his way back home. So begins the dramatic adventure of this warm-hearted, gentle-natured dog in search of a master in a strange new territory. A Golden Tale re-imagines the life and times of author Roni Papian's own beloved golden retriever, Mr. York, from the harrowing experience of abandonment to the newfound joy of finding the perfect family. Written for the children's market, ages eight to twelve, A Golden Tale offers an endearing and insightful foray into the world of our four-legged friends from a canine perspective that is certain to delight animal lovers of all ages. After Jake's master Beau learns from a veterinarian that his loyal companion is very sick, Beau makes a rash decision that he will live to deeply regret. The young man ushers his sidekick into his truck, drives miles away from home, and leaves Jake to find his own way to a better life. Luckily for Jake, the distressed dog crosses paths with one kindhearted person after another, until he finally finds an ideal pair with the help of the Adopt a Golden Atlanta organization. The couple, Roni and Joe, take great care of their new friend, who they call York, and help him become a thriving healthy dog once again. A rollicking journey with plenty of good times as well as some all-too-real struggles, A Golden Tale also delivers a reflective, resonant message on the abiding kindness of the beloved golden retriever, as well as some lessons on how humans can treat these special animals with the sensitivity and compassion they seek from us and so deserve. Dog lovers everywhere will value this celebration of the loyalty and love that rescue dogs can share with lucky individuals who have the golden opportunity to welcome them into their homes.
