John Bonner has been a developmental and evolutionary biologist for over sixty years. In earlier books he described his own history and the sweeping changes in biology during that period (2002, Lives of a Biologist, Harvard University Press; 1996, Sixty Years of Biology: Essays on Evolution and Development, Princeton University Press). For many years John has entertained colleagues with vignettes of his earlier associates and anecdotes about inhabiting and eventually chairing a Biology Department at Princeton University, as Ecology and Evolutionary Biology came of age and became a Department of their own.
