Open Water: Emerging Shamanism

Shamanism is a young word for an ancient practice. Academic writing about shamanism - as a general term to refer to Indigenous spiritual traditions - is often controversial. In this volume, John Farrell Kelly suggests that shamanist experiences may emerge organically in non-Indigenous populations and that it may be valuable to reflect on these experiences and to develop thought about them. In a series of independent chapters that move fluidly between creative and academic writing, Kelly uses feminist theory and emergent writing methodologies in feminist studies to express a style of shamanism and to develop a shamanist standpoint, epistemology, and generational standpoint.
