Defiant Agents: A Positronic Book

A fast-paced science fiction adventure of colonization, alien worlds, and the struggle to survive beyond Earth.

In The Defiant Agents, Andre Norton returns to the richly imagined universe of her interstellar exploration novels, where human expansion into distant systems brings both opportunity and danger. A group of agents is sent to prepare a newly discovered world for settlement, only to find that the planet is far from empty and far from predictable.

As the mission unfolds, tensions rise between human objectives and the realities of an alien environment shaped by unknown forces. Norton combines action, suspense, and careful world-building to explore themes of adaptation, identity, and survival in unfamiliar territory.

First published in 1962, The Defiant Agents stands as a key entry in Norton's body of work, reflecting her ability to craft accessible yet richly layered science fiction. This unabridged edition presents the complete text for modern readers.
