In South Carolina, it is the Licensing Board for Contractors that processes all licensing issues. After passing the Commercial Business and Law Exam, one should attempt to take the Limited/Unlimited contractor exams. You want to have a minimum of 2 years of residential and/or commercial experience within the last 5 years to do so. The Limited/Unlimited status is more an issue that deals with one's financial strength. Residential building and commercial building share the same underlying principles and concepts although they have different preferences in methods and material as they need to support load and occupancy of different natures.
