Fables from A to Z (From Aesop to Zuñiga)

Presenting a classic master storyteller: Luis Andrés Zúñiga offers captivating stories about animals to show what makes us human. Luis Andrés Zúñiga was a man ahead of his time. With great precision, he wrote almost a century ago in his superbly crafted fables about his world, a world that bears an uncanny resemblance to that of today. The enduring and timeless quality of his fables takes aim at the self-serving and corrupt politicians of his day who perfectly mirror the politicians of our own times. Using animals like the lion, the mouse, the eagle and the spider, he deftly ridicules humanity and zeroes in on the hypocrisy of society. He exposes in his fables the uncontrolled avarice, corruption, hubris, and deviousness of the politicians he came to know; the disastrous consequences of electing incompetent individuals to high office, and the perils of a raging mob. Zúñiga's characters expose man's true nature and how he fools people, none more so than himself. The stories anticipate the horrifying struggles that are taking place in parts of our world today. In the nasty and ruthless world he depicts, only the strong and the cunning can survive. And yet, the stories evoke a humanism that shows us there can be redemption in this world through the power of goodness and love.
