Texas Songbird: The Life and Songs of Cindy Walker

Cindy Walker has been called "the dean of Texas songwriters," "a true Texas treasure," and "the greatest living songwriter of country music" of her time. But few people outside of country music circles recognize her name, nor do they have any idea what a great contribution she made to American music. Walker was an extraordinarily productive and successful songwriter, writing more than a thousand songs. Over half of them have been recorded by a long list of artists from different musical genres, and many became hits for the likes of Bob Wills, Eddy Arnold, and Gene Autry.

Walker was inducted into the "Million-aires club" of Broadcast Music International (BMI), which means her songs have been played on the radio more than a million times. They have also frequently appeared in movies and television shows. Of course, she received numerous honors and awards, further evidence of her significance. This book is intended to fill some of the gaps in the public's knowledge of this remarkable woman who lived most of her life in Mexia, a small town in Central Texas.
