The last few decades have seen a fracturing of the United States which has led many to warn of violence, and indeed, even civil war. When two of the largest states, California and Texas, each contemplate secession, but for exactly opposite reasons, you can be sure that something is seriously broken. What it will look like when the country finally splinters is unknowable, but can it be prevented?
