Author Deborah Wutzke wants readers to understand what it is like to work as a first responder for the US Forest Service. She initially worked for the Department of Forestry/Cal Fire in Riverside County, California as a volunteer. She was then hired by the US Forest Service in Corona, California. She worked as a firefighter for fifteen years and then graduated from the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Georgia. She worked as a federal law enforcement officer for seventeen years specializing in fire investigation. She kept diaries throughout her career. Life Is What You Make It: Some Decide to Hold Tight contains a few of the stories of those encounters. This book is dedicated to the first responders that she had the honor of working with.
