Gazebo

With elegant, honest prose, Emily Grayson crafts the story of an improbable romance in upstate New York and the lonely woman it touches. The Gazebo is a tale about the timeless nature of true love and the way it can change lives through the years. An elderly man, Martin Rayfiel, arrives unexpectedly at the office of small-town newspaper editor Abby Reston. Martin offers the indifferent editor his personal story of a love affair that spans more than fifty years. Every year, he and his lover, Claire Swift, meet at the gazebo in Longwood Falls to share a few brief moments in each other's company. Eventually, the story pulls Abby in. Uncovering more than she ever imagined, she is forced to take a closer look at her own life and the decisions she has made. Linda Stephens' warm narration is the perfect accompaniment to Grayson's moving prose, poignantly bringing the characters of this tender romance to life.
