Mirror of Shalott

Around a fireside in a Roman presbytery, seven priests and a layman agree on an unusual project: each will tell, in turn, a true tale of the uncanny drawn from his own ministry. What follows is a chain of strange and chilling reports - a man who suffers a sudden and terrible loss of faith after offering himself for another's soul; a missionary who confronts something hideous in an Indian forest; a parish priest summoned to a deathbed where the laughter of unseen things drowns out his prayers.

Each storyteller insists on the literal truth of his account, and each leaves more questions than answers. Are these manifestations the work of departed souls? Of demons? Of Providence itself, briefly drawing back the curtain? The priests debate, dispute, and pray, but the spiritual world refuses to be fully seen - only mirrored, darkly and in pieces, through whatever cracks it can find.
