Photography Demystified--Your Guide to the World of Travel Photography--How to Explore, See, and Photograph the World is a book written for those that love to travel, explore, adventure, and photograph.
Many photographers wanting to embark on a photographic adventure are not sure where exactly to begin. Often they find themselves asking not only photography technique questions but also seeking practical advice--How should I pack my gear? What's the best way to take my cameras and equipment on an airplane safely? What about getting through security in a foreign country, how does that work? And other questions related to traveling and carrying photography equipment.

Photography Demystified--Your Guide to the World of Travel Photography--How to Explore, See, and Photograph the World is a dedicated to giving you practical advice, so you can get the most out of your travel photography experience. This book will help you and your gear get to your destination/s practically and safely. I present what I have learned through years of travel and leading photographic tours. Additionally, the travel photographer will receive specific insight into creating photographs of their travels that are both stunning and captivating, in terms of the stories they tell.

Along with my wife, Ally, I own McKay Photography Academy. I have taught over 12 thousand people, just like you, photography. For the past five years, I have also led hundreds of beginning photographers and photo enthusiasts on photographic tours around the world--to Cuba, Europe, Tanzania, and Iceland--among many other places. With that experience, I am able to bring you knowledge that sometimes I have had to learn the hard way. These insights alone will save you hours of frustration and will help to make sure your photographic travel experiences live up to everything you dream of.

Having earned the titles of Master of Photography and Master of Photographic Craftsmen from Professional Photographers of America, the leading photography organization in the world, I have been a full-time professional photographer for over twenty-nine years and am passionate about teaching others how to achieve great results in their photography. My heart's aim is to see that everyone can enjoy photography and to take the frustration out of the process!

The photographic education, tips, and travel knowledge you are about to read are proven methods to help people create the finest photographs of their travels. Take control of your photographic journey right now, make it productive, and enjoy the results of capturing the travel photographs you always dreamed of.

For those that have not yet read my first two international best-selling books in the Photography Demystified series, I would highly recommend doing so, unless you already have a firm grasp of manual settings and an understanding of light. Even if you do, I believe there is some valuable information for everyone and all levels of photographers in those first two books.

While my first two books are by no means required in order to enjoy and gain valuable knowledge from this book, you will get the most out of this third book in the series, and in your travel photography, by understanding how to use manual settings on your camera system as well as other aspects of photography, such as working with light, that are foundational to creating amazing photographs. These are all taught in my first book Photography Demystified--Your Guide to Gaining Creative Control and Taking Amazing Photographs.

It is my sincere hope that after reading this book as well as my others, you once again feel my passion for travel and photography, become more confident in your abilities, and are ready more than ever before to create amazing photographs of your journey!

Photogenic Montreal: Activisms and Archives in a Post-Industrial City

The agency of photographs is a recurrent concern within the context of the city. Whether found in architectural records, social documentary, photojournalism, or artistic practice, photographic objects are embedded in urban contestation, aesthetically charged by artists, reinserted into social histories, and mobilized to imagine a future city. Photogenic Montreal takes a question initially posed by heritage debates - what does photography preserve? - and creates a rich conversation about the agency of the human actors before and behind the camera, and of the medium itself.
The interplay of archives and activisms structures the book. Photographs that appear to be sealed off in newspapers, storage rooms, or archives accrue new meaning when they cross the threshold back into social spaces and circulate anew. It is through the reactivation of archival photographs that submerged traces of urban experience are discovered, and alternate histories of Montreal can be recounted. Multiple forms of activism and artistic expression complement this archival work. Beginning in the 1960s, community-minded and heritage groups responded to the tensions arising from urban reconstruction, gentrification, and the erasure of neighbourhoods; this activism also left its photographic traces.
Attentive to the still-changing face of the city's architecture, neighbourhoods, and street life, Photogenic Montreal participates in debates about who the city belongs to, who speaks on its behalf, and how to picture its past and present.
