Force of Nature: Three Women Tackle The John Muir Trail

"Lace up your hiking boots! Let Griffin guide you over granite mountains, through thunderstorms, and wildflower-studded meadows." -Barbara Olson Lawrence, author of the Drawing Water

Force of Nature is an exhilarating blend of adventure memoir, vivid nature writing, and the enduring story of friendship tested on one of America's most iconic trails.

When three women over fifty-Joan, Cappy, and Jane-set out to hike California's 200-mile John Muir Trail, they expect breathtaking scenery and a physical challenge. What they don't expect are unpredictable mountain weather, self-inflicted mishaps, and a chance encounter that leads them to "adopt" a young hiker after she's abandoned by her backpacking partner.

Over twenty-seven unforgettable days, the women face lightning at 11,000 feet, ford icy streams, walk through a towering waterfall, dance beneath moonlit skies, and push their bodies and spirits beyond what they believed possible. Along the way, they encounter a cast of eccentric trail characters, discover strength they never knew they possessed, and learn that the greatest rewards often come from embracing the unexpected.

Filled with humor and grit and set in the heart of wild beauty, Force of Nature is an inspiring story of courage, friendship, and the transformative power of stepping far beyond the comforts of everyday life.
