In a world where pollution control has taken a back seat, and there is severe overpopulation, terrible things are bound to happen to bring balance back to the human species and repair the damage that we have created. No one is immune to a global catastrophe, and everyone will be affected. A fungus that attacks a colony. It kills from within, growing rapidly. Finally sprouting out of the body and releasing new spores. It is said that Cordyceps exist due to overpopulation.

Warren, Olivia, Sylvia, Louie, Rick, and Dennis are doing their best to survive the horrors of the red cough. No matter what they do, the infection gets closer and closer. With things progressively getting worse, their world will change before their very eyes. Citizens' daily lives are changing as the fungus spreads across the nation. Some continue on with life unaware of the tragedies experienced, while others are just beginning to experience the horrors of the red cough.
