The story includes the Monarch butterfly lifecycle and the names and pictures of nectar and host plants. The author's grandchildren contributed most of the illustrations in this children's book, including the cover.

The new second edition uses this summer's photographs taken by the author in her own butterfly garden. The life cycle and migration of the monarchs is explained. A list of seasonal shrubs and plants to attract butterflies is on the last page.
