Calloused by the Iraq War, Nicanor, an expatriate, finds solace in living the Hemingway lifestyle. By day, he writes, deep sea fishes, and fights off a persistent bull shark. By night, he drinks, corrals women, and tussles with the local gangsters.

One day his world changes as Mabel, a woman of stunning, yet simplistic beauty turns up on his beach. The epitome of carpe diem with a strict policy of laissez faire, she captivates Nicanor and brings with her a world he left behind.

What starts as an interest in the lavish parties of Mabel's wealthy friend, UFC champ Henry Starr, grows into disillusionment and Nicanor finds himself torn between the decadence of his carefree new friends and the fleeting independence of the isolation he craves.
