This book is a companion volume to Merle Reid Clark's book, Nels and Emma Just, A Historical Collection. It continues the family story by focusing on Robert E. Reid, her grandfather, his ancestors, his marriage to Agnes Just, and their lives together raising five boys on a ranch along Idaho's Blackfoot River.
Today, their home, built in 1887, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is preserved by the Presto Preservation Association, a family organization.
Much of Clark's work comes from interviews with her father Fred Reid and uncle Doug Reid, sons of Robert and Agnes. She poured over correspondence, diaries, and other writings by Agnes Just Reid, a long-time columnist for the Blackfoot News and the author of several books of poetry and two about family and regional history. Clark also interviewed many other family members and researched online ancestry records to pull together this history. The book includes page after page of historical and family photographs and illustrations.
ROBERT E. AND AGNES JUST REID, A Historical Collection, will be invaluable for those researching the Reid family. It also provides a unique window for those interested in the early days of farming and ranching in Idaho.
