As I Am

As I Am is a story about the power of unconditional love and friendship for a gender non-conforming child.

Kai and their cat share an unconditional friendship. They enjoy silly games and comfort each other when afraid. Together, they feel safe. Kai does not identify as a boy or a girl. Sometimes, school is challenging. Not everyone understands, but Kai knows it's not complicated. They are nonbinary! At the end of the day, Kai comes home. Their cat welcomes Kai home with purrs and snuggles. Kai feels accepted and loved- most importantly by themself!

Caregiver Gender Guide Included

Children begin to develop and enforce beliefs and rules about gender between ages three and six. Stories with characters of diverse genders help children cultivate understanding, compassion and healthy identities. As I Am and its guide serve as s a tool for children and adults to discuss gender- helping us create communities that are loving and safe for all.
