Behind the Veil: The Hidden History of the Seventh-day Adventist Church (Compilation and Commenary)

I was raised in a Seventh-day Adventist home, and, for some forty years, was "An Adventist of Adventists." As I studied the Hebrew Scriptures, I began to realize the SdA 2300 years, 1944, Investigative Judgment, and Probation Doctrines were nowhere found in Scripture. After many searches, I chose these Nine Issues of the Gathering Call Periodical. published by several former Seventh-day Adventist pastors and other workers. Their focus was on revealing the errors of their doctrines, as well as many of their other "un-Christian" practices. These are well documented in these Issues; the nine Issues span 21 years, and as new readers subscribed, they repeated many articles from prior Issues. Though the Editors documented these problems that were systematically denied and hidden by the SdA authorities, they still attempted to urge the Church to correct their errors. However, they failed to offer corrections, the Investigative Judgment, Atonement, and 2300 Years Doctrines.

The Gathering Call Issues in this book were created from original scans of the nne issues. These Issues are from the collection of A. F. Dugger, who was a family friend of the Whites. The Editors of the Gathering Call Periodicals called out the errors of Doctrines and Practices of the SdA Denomination, and rightly so. However, their premise was to reform the Church from within, but they failed to offer any Scriptural resolutions to the doctrinal errors. The corrections of the SdA practices are a different matter.

Part Two of this Book are My Commentaries addressing the Doctrinal errors that are prominent "Pillars" of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. These Central Doctrines are: The 2300 Days and 1844; The Cleansing of the Sanctuary; The Investigative Judgment; The Atonement; The Shut Door; The Time of Probation; and a Specific example of Ellen White's Plagiarism.

"The history of the Seventh-day Adventist denomination began with the Millerite movement of 1844. He honestly thought he found at least five time prophecies which terminated in 1843, which were later adjusted to terminate in the fall of 1844. James White, Joseph Bates and Mrs. Ellen G. White were the outstanding trinity of the founders of the Seventh Day Advent branch of the Miller movement. Ellen Harmon, who became the wife of James White in 1846, began soon after the disappointment to have visions. This gift under the direction of Elder White gave them all but an undisputed leadership.

Fanaticism and extremes in practice and teaching ran wild for at least a decade after the disappointment and not a few of these crude beliefs have cemented into the very foundation of their denominational structure. With their many errors they have mingled some well-fortified Bible truths which they have broadcast to the world with commendable zeal.
