Phil Lit Paragon: 2026 Poetry Anthology

For PHIL LIT, a paragon is not a poem that conforms to a single idea of perfection. What feels perfect, necessary, or fully realized in one poem may look entirely different in another. We use the word to honor poems that are shaped with intention, alive to their own possibilities, and willing to make room for complexity, surprise, vulnerability, and change.

What does it mean for a poem to widen us-to make more room inside the reader for wonder, contradiction, grief, delight, and change?

PHIL LIT PARAGON is the annual poetry anthology of PHIL LIT Journal, bringing together exceptional work selected from the journal's semi-annual contests & seasonal issues: Reader's Choice selections, editorial nominations, and staff contributions. The collection serves both as an anthology and as a record of PHIL LIT's editorial year: a gathering of poems shaped by close attention to image, sound, form, restraint, emotional truth, and the many ways language can deepen our experience of the world.

More than a collection of individual poems, PHIL LIT PARAGON celebrates the community that surrounds literary work-the writers who make it, the editors who attend to it, and the readers who complete it through their own acts of attention. This inaugural volume honors the voices that helped define PHIL LIT Journal's first editorial year and marks the beginning of an annual tradition dedicated to resonant contemporary poetry
